Healing the world through lab animal services

What We Do

Having consulted with over 30 institutions, PLAVS is recognized on the world stage for our contributions to initiatives that have led to major increases in funding for various organizations.  PLAVS has also helped establish and improve the infrastructure of global governmental departments.

We are available to support companies, academic institutions, and governments.  PLAVS receives frequent requests to help organizations develop, implement and maintain their animal care and use program, train in surgical and non-surgical techniques, and help them achieve full compliance.  All this includes development and improvement of their IACUCs, staffing, occupational health, veterinary care, and facility design and operations.

How We Can Help

Poor animal care leads to research variables resulting in poor-quality data yield. In turn, good animal care minimizes variables that eventually produce reliable data, peer reviewed publications, license patents, and commercial development opportunities. PLAVS prides in a history of helping institutions improve their animal care and use programs. When we have helped animal care, scientific quality grows proportionally.

Our Record of Success

We have a trusted record of success in helping programs attain AAALAC International accreditation, other programs in developing their animal facilities, others improve their training, while others simply improve their overall animal care.  Regardless of the size of your program, or whether it is existing or not we can help you develop it into a robust program capable of achieving the highest standards, such as the time when we helped grow a tiny startup company into an accredited multimillion dollar biotech company. Our reach and support are available worldwide as we have helped institutions in North, Central and South America, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan and others.

What People Are Saying

“As our contracted Veterinarian, Marcel took us from nothing to having an extraordinary program, including the establishment of an IACUC, occupational health program, animal care, model development, and veterinary care.  His knowledge, reputation, and guidance helped us develop strategic partnerships and collaborations key to our growth.”

— Ramon Coronado, M.S.,Ph.D., Director, Crown Scientific

“Marcel has been our sole Attending Veterinarian and a founding member of our IACUC since we began our preclinical program in 2007.  With his experience and guidance we were able to earn full AAALAC accreditation in 2009 and have grown into a multimillion dollar contract research group working with pharma and biotech companies around the world.  We could not have done this without Marcel and PLAVS, thank you for everything!!!”

— Michael Wick, Ph.D CSO, Director of Research at XenoSTART

“Marcel is the perfect consulting laboratory animal professional, as he knows how to put everyone at ease the moment he enters the room; he is very knowledgeable and unconditionally passionate about his work. He is knowledgeable and diligent about the audit process and provides a very clear picture of all the improvements that should be implemented. He is also knowledgeable about the AAALAC accreditation process and has been highly successful in shepherding new applications as well as renewals.”

— Horatiu V. Vinerean, DVM, DACLAM

“Marcel Perret-Gentil D.V.M. has provided greater than 15-years of expert veterinary services, surgical expertise, and best practices to the University of Texas at Dallas. In his capacity as a trusted consultant, Marcel’s surgical training has provided burgeoning students, staff, and faculty with the levels of expertise necessary to confidently participate in critical research, and intricate surgical procedures. The results of his surgical workshops include participants equipped with sound scientific understanding into the physiology of their patients, trained in proper surgical techniques to ensure better health in their patients, and more accurate research results.

One of the most impressive aspects of Marcel’s training program remains his friendly disposition and approachability. Participants are also invited to attend in-depth presentations presented in a comfortable setting geared towards individual participation. These sessions provide opportunities for real discussion surrounding topics from aseptic technique to pertinent medical advances. Participants exit these information sessions, and surgical workshops, with smiles on their faces, and enthusiasm for the challenges and opportunities to await them in their respective medical fields, and to more than a few, a career mentor.”

— K.D. McCallister, Assistant Vice-President for Research Operations Office of Research University of Texas at Dallas

Dr. Marcel Perret-Gentil, visited Animal core Universidad de los Andes, Colombia with the objective of this visit was to support the process of improvement of procedures, facilities and of the program itself, in order to aspire to obtain international accreditation.
His experience as a veterinarian and Director of the Laboratory Animal Resources Center (LARC) of the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) were fundamental, in addition to the fact that he handles the Spanish language to perfection, he gave us the basics to be able to improve our program and aspire to an AAALAC International accreditation

— Médico Veterinario Coordinadora Animal Core, Universidad de Los Andes, Bogota, Colombia

“Dr. Perret-Gentil’s and PLAVS’ AAALAC expertise and practical approach was one of the main reasons we engaged him for AAALAC visit preparation. He was meticulous, efficient and shared his findings in a timely manner. As a result, we ended up with a successful AAALAC visit. Overtime, his surgical expertise and best practices helped refine our surgical models and SOPs. I recommend him without hesitation and certainly looking forward to working with him and PLAVS in the near future.”

— Szczepan Baran, MS, VMD, Head of Emerging Technologies, LAS at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR), Inc.

“As a vivarium planner and architect, I have had the pleasure of working with Marcel and Luis on a variety of projects from the initial phases of programming, planning, and concept design through to the development and completion of construction documentation. The first was a 40,000 sq ft, two-story, multi-species animal research facility for Nazarbayev University in the country of Kazakhstan. The fact that the project was to be constructed on the other side of the world, in very unfamiliar territory, required that Marcel, Luis, and I remain in near constant communication. The five months we worked together allowed me to gain an appreciation for their knowledge, experience, and aptitude. They are great team players. Their amiable demeanor and positive attitude are a great compliment to their extensive knowledge and experience.”
