President and Founder

Marcel Perret-Gentil

Dr. Perret-Gentil currently serves as University Veterinarian and Director of the Laboratory Animal Resources Center at the University of Texas at San Antonio, and President of Perret-Gentil Lab Animal Veterinary Services PLLC (PLAVS).  He is the Attending Veterinarian for XenoSTART, Crown Scientific and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.  His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, a Residency and Master of Science in Comparative Medicine and a Fellowship in Experimental Minimally Invasive Surgery.  Past Veterinary Medicine employment has been with the United States Army, Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Merck, University of Florida and Texas Tech HSC.

As of May of 2021, Dr. Perret-Gentil has published or contributed to 63 papers, articles, chapters and abstracts.  He has presented 428 special presentations at various academic and research institutions in the US and abroad, as well as national and international meetings. 

He serves as ad hoc Specialist for AAALAC International (having conducted 45 site visits), and as consultant to several governments, biotechnology industry and other institutions of higher education in the United States and abroad.  Dr. Perret-Gentil has assisted his current institution as well as others as consultant in preparing and obtaining accreditation from AAALAC International in the US and abroad.

Luis Zorrilla

Mr. Luis Zorrilla is the Assistant Director of the Laboratory Animal Resources Center (LARC) at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). In addition, he is Course Director at Drexel University and professor in the Master of Laboratory Animal Science (MLAS) program where he teaches the Architecture, Engineering and Planning course for Laboratory Animal Facilities. He served in the planning and construction committee of XenoSTART, San Antonio, Texas and for the Universidad Católica del Maule, Chile.  

His academic background includes biological sciences and pedagogy, a fundamental structure for the administration of scientific research programs.  Currently, he is completing a Master of Business Administration which complements fiscal and budget responsibilities, and activities crucial for the administration of research programs in academic institutions.  

As an active member in the field, Mr. Zorrilla has served on the Board of Directors for the American Association for Laboratory Animals (AALAS) and as a member of the committee and instruction at the Institute of Laboratory Animal Management (ILAM), both of which are internationally recognized programs as a source of instruction and preparation for animal research management, and program management and administration.  In addition to presentations and publications, Mr. Zorrilla serves as international advisor on the design, construction and administration of animal research facilities and programs.
